We are all aware that most national health systems are unsustainable given an increasing demand for health services, more expensive technologies, an ageing population and a dwindling health workforce capacity. Medinfo2007 is an outstanding opportunity for you to explore how best to address these challenges and to learn about what health informatics can do to benefit the world’s population.

You are invited to submit a full paper for an oral presentation or an abstract for poster, or a proposal to run a pre-conference tutorial, workshop or to put together a panel on a specific topic or to simply undertake the necessary planning activities to attend and participate. The content of all papers and proposals should be consistent with the overall conference theme and contribute to our understanding of how best to set about creating sustainable health systems through the optimum use of information and knowledge management by means of computing and communication technologies. We have begun this process via significant partnering with the Australian Government, EDS Agility Alliance, Hewlett Packard and GE Health Care, all leading multinational health IT organisations.

The Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) is very privileged to have been awarded the opportunity to host the 12^th World Congress on Health (Medical) Informatics, Medinfo 2007. We look forward to welcoming you to Brisbane, Australia.

A Medinfo conference is the premier triennial international meeting for the medical informatics community. There is nothing else like a Medinfo conference — as it is
“the” place that the most exciting and dynamic medical (health) informatics concepts, research, ideas, and practical informatics topics from across the world are presented.

Medinfo 2007 will be the 12^th Medinfo conference and the first in Australia! A Medinfo conference is the official conference of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) and 2007 will also mark the 40^th anniversary of IMIA. The conference is organized and coordinated by the Health Informatics Society of Australia. The Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing and international businesses partners EDS Agility Alliance, Hewlett Packard, and GE Health Systems have agreed to be sponsors.

Our Australian colleagues have selected a topic that most countries are currently addressing—“Building Sustainable Health Systems”. Our colleagues have also selected a wonderful site and arranged for a very fulfilling social program as well!
